VERONA, Italy, August 25, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Andrea Lonardi, COO of Angelini Wines & Estates, has been officially recognized as a Master of Wine (MW) by the Institute of Masters of Wine. This designation marks the culmination of a journey that began for Lonardi in 2014 and signifies only the second time an Italian has achieved this prestigious title in the world of wine. Lonardi's achievement is seen as a significant milestone for not only himself but also the Italian wine sector as a whole. Prior to Lonardi's accomplishment, the institute had recognized 412 MWs from 31 countries in its over 70-year history. Italy had received its first MW only in 2021.

In an interview with Stevie Kim for the Italian Wine Podcast, Lonardi emphasized the importance of having more Italian MWs in the industry. "Italian wine needs strategy and planning, schemes, logic and discipline, cultivating its identity and prestige," he said. According to Lonardi, the MW program enables the study of models that can help develop such a strategy. He also shared that his role as an MW will not be confined solely to wine tasting; instead, it will encompass broader aspects like research, development, planning, and organization. Lonardi plans to apply this multifaceted approach to his work at Angelini Wines & Estates, particularly focusing on "stylistic planning, managerial organization and commercial aspects of the fine wines project."
