LOS ANGELES, July 23, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Epoch Studios, a division of The Epoch Times, will release its first faith-based film, The Firing Squad, in theaters nationwide on August 2, 2024. The film, directed by Christian filmmaker Tim Chey, tells the true story of prisoners on death row who find hope through an unexpected relationship with Jesus.

Starring Kevin Sorbo, Cuba Gooding, Jr., and James Barrington, The Firing Squad explores the experiences of three convicted criminals facing execution. As their final moments approach, a series of events leads to a surprising conclusion. The film is part of the growing market of faith-based cinema, following recent successes like Sound of Freedom and Jesus Revolution.

Tim Chey, the film’s writer and director, was inspired by a 2015 real-life prison saga in Indonesia. "They all went out singing ‘Amazing Grace’ as they faced their execution. I said, ‘I have to make this movie,’” Chey said in an interview with NBC News.

Audience reactions at previews indicate that The Firing Squad encourages introspection and contemplation of profound life questions. Chey noted, “We’ve had audience members ask how they can have the same relationship with Jesus that they witnessed in the lives of the prisoners. Beyond mere entertainment, this is a compelling, evangelistic film.”
