LiCAP Technologies Inc. Receives $2.93 Million Grant to Advance Activated Dry Electrode Lithium-Ion Battery Manufacturing
SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 28, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - LiCAP Technologies Inc. has been granted $2.93 million by the California Energy Commission to support the establishment of a 250MWh battery electrode production line. This initiative aims to demonstrate the exceptional performance and scalability of LiCAP's proprietary Activated Dry Electrode® process. The innovative Activated Dry Electrode® technique provides a cost-effective, sustainable, and environmentally friendly approach to manufacturing lithium-ion battery electrodes. The grant from the California Energy Commission will enable LiCAP Technologies to validate the commercial viability of its process and advance toward the mass production of gigawatt-hour electrode production lines.
As a global leader in electrode manufacturing, LiCAP Technologies has introduced the Activated Dry Electrode® process to propel the battery market towards sustainable and cost-effective growth. By eliminating the use of toxic chemicals and energy-intensive processes employed in traditional wet slurry technology, the proprietary Activated Dry Electrode® process revolutionizes the electrode manufacturing landscape. This groundbreaking technique not only saves floor space, labor, and energy but also eliminates the risk of exposure to hazardous NMP solvent. Implementing this technology in mass production can reduce floor space requirements by at least 65% and decrease energy consumption by 70%. Furthermore, the Activated Dry Electrode® process is compatible with various battery chemistries, streamlines electrode manufacturing, and enables the development of high-energy and high-power density batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
Dr. Linda Zhong, CEO and Co-founder of LiCAP Technologies, expressed her enthusiasm about the grant, stating, "The California Energy Commission grant allows the LiCAP technical team to further develop equipment expertise through building a 250MWh roll-to-roll electrode production line using the Activated Dry Electrode® process for global lithium-ion battery manufacturers. Our customers will be able to experience world-class lithium-ion battery performance for both Electric Vehicles and Grid Storage with significant manufacturing cost savings."
