HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., February 20, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Hideki Matsuyama has won The Genesis Invitational with a historic final round of 62, the lowest final round score ever at Riviera Country Club, finishing at 17-under par and securing the victory by three strokes. This marks Matsuyama's ninth PGA Tour win.

During the final round, Matsuyama's performance was notably enhanced by his precision with the Srixon Z-Forged II Irons, particularly on the back nine where he scored six birdies without incurring any bogeys. His approach shots on the 15th and 16th holes, which landed within nine and six inches of the hole respectively, were pivotal moments in the round.

In his own words regarding the tournament and his recent performance, Matsuyama said, “Ever since that injury, I was worried every week I would hurt my back. This week I played without any worries so that really helped. I think it’s really important for me to keep this momentum, especially going into Augusta, so hopefully I can keep that.” This statement reflects Matsuyama's relief at playing pain-free and his optimism for future tournaments, particularly the major season.

Matsuyama's victory at The Genesis Invitational is significant not only for his personal career but also for its historical implications, as it establishes him as the first Japanese player to win at Riviera and the winningest Asian-born player in PGA Tour history.

The equipment Matsuyama used to secure his victory at The Genesis Invitational includes the Srixon ZX5 LS Mk II 9.5° Driver, Srixon Z-Forged II Irons 4-PW, Cleveland Golf RTX Wedges (52°, 56°, 60°), and the Srixon Z-STAR XV golf ball.
