Nathalie Pohl Sets Another Record: Completes One Lap of Jersey Island in Exceptional Time

JERSEY, UK, July 19, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Renowned extreme swimmer Nathalie Pohl has once again set a record by swimming around the British Channel Island of Jersey. The 28-year-old completed the course on July 18 in a remarkable time of 9:43:27 hours, becoming the fourth fastest woman in one of the world's most technically challenging marathon swims.
The Round Jersey swim is a breathtaking route covering approximately 66 kilometres (41 miles), with swimmers traversing past beautiful landscapes, long sandy beaches, and gentle cliffs. However, the demanding length of the course and the potential for varying currents make it an intense test of endurance, often taking swimmers a draining ten to twelve hours to complete.
"I set a world record here in Jersey three years ago. I wanted to come back again and prove what I am capable of," said Pohl, expressing her delight and pride at her achievement. Preparing for such a feat involves meticulous planning, strenuous training, and an indomitable mental state. Even then, every swim poses its own unique challenges, something Pohl embraces about open-water swimming.
Pohl's history with the North Sea is a mix of trials and triumphs. Eight years ago, at the beginning of her career, her attempt to swim the English Channel almost proved fatal. A year later, she returned to break the German record for the 34-kilometre swim. In 2020, she swam the Jersey Channel, a 22.5-kilometre stretch separating the Channel Island from the French mainland, setting a world record time of 5:29:37 hours.
Pohl's next challenge is the seventh and final stage of the "Ocean's Seven": the North Channel between Ireland and Scotland. If she successfully completes the frigid 14-degree waters of the North Channel, she will become the 23rd person globally, and the first German woman, to achieve this feat.
