GRANBY, Colo., December 21, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Project Sanctuary, a nonprofit organization specializing in well-being retreats for military families, has announced the acquisition of a 42-acre retreat center in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. According to the organization, this new facility will serve as a primary location for therapeutic retreats aimed at helping military families heal, gain strength, and envision a more hopeful future together.

Project Sanctuary's founder and CEO, Heather Ehle, remarked on the significance of the new center, stating, "Having our own retreat center and ensuring military families will have a place to call their own, a place of hope and healing, has always been a dream of Project Sanctuary.” The acquisition comes after the organization faced challenges following the loss of a primary retreat center partner in the 2020 East Troublesome Fire and the rising costs associated with hosting programs at partner sites.

The new Project Sanctuary Retreat Center, finalized on December 19, 2023, includes a main lodge equipped with a commercial kitchen, five private bedrooms, a game room, and a fireside lounge. Additional facilities include a guest lodge, duplex cabins, RV hook-up locations, and various other buildings and equipment to support property upkeep and program activities.

Ehle expressed gratitude towards the lead donors, The Milanovich Trust and The Bill Ackerman Estate, and the Project Sanctuary Board of Directors for their contributions towards the acquisition. While the organization will continue to utilize partner retreat centers across the country, the new property is expected to significantly expand its capacity to serve more military families throughout the year.

Project Sanctuary is currently planning renovations and additions to better accommodate families and intends to launch a capital campaign in 2024 to support these efforts. The organization assures minimal disruption to programming during this period, as 2024 contracts have already been established with retreat center partners for upcoming programming.
