BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y., July 20, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - The world of journalism, politics, and literature mourns the loss of a prominent figure, Richard James Whalen, as announced by Whalen Global Advisors LLC. Known nationally for his work as a best-selling author, adviser to three Republican presidents, and a State Department consultant, Whalen passed away on July 18 in Yorktown Heights.

Whalen left indelible imprints on American history through his versatile career. Not only did he serve as an adviser to Presidents Richard M. Nixon and George H.W. Bush, but he also played a significant role in the implementation of President Ronald Reagan's North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Recalling a crucial moment in his advisory role, Whalen once said, "I gave my Volcker reappointment memo and package to Senator Paul Laxalt and he took it up to Camp David over a weekend with the President. Monday, he telephoned and said: 'It's done. You can tell Paul to expect a call.'" This marked his silent but significant contribution to Reagan's decision to reappoint Fed Chairman Paul Volcker.

As an author, Whalen created a sensation with his critically acclaimed book, The Founding Father: The Story of Joseph P. Kennedy, which remained on the New York Times' bestseller list for over a year. His family, including his wife, Joan Marie Giuffré Whalen, their children R. Christopher Whalen, Laura Aram, Michael Whalen, and grandchildren Alexandra Valencia, Nicholas Aram, Julia Whalen, and William Whalen, survives him.
