WASHINGTON, November 1, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - The Nuclear Company, an energy firm focused on fleet-scale nuclear development, has appointed Jhansi Kandasamy as its Vice President of Regulatory and External Affairs. Kandasamy was previously the Executive Director of the Net-Zero program at Idaho National Laboratory (INL), where she led projects aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2031.

At INL, Kandasamy’s work included integrating the first electric motor coach at a federal facility, an effort that contributed to a 2024 U.S. Department of Energy Sustainability Award. She also led the development of a nuclear industry roadmap by collaborating with the U.S. Department of Energy, Nuclear Energy Institute, and reactor developers including General Electric, Oklo, and Westinghouse Electric Company.

Kandasamy expressed her enthusiasm for The Nuclear Company’s approach, saying, “The public-private partnerships that are core to The Nuclear Company’s unique business model are what most attracted me to the company. This fresh approach to financing and building nuclear power is what the United States has long needed to keep pace with foreign countries that are rapidly building out more nuclear infrastructure.”

The Nuclear Company seeks to address the growing energy demand in the U.S. through a “design-once, build-many” approach to nuclear project development. The company’s model is designed to minimize costs and delays, which have historically impacted nuclear projects. The Nuclear Company’s Industry Working Group brings together partners across utilities, nuclear technology suppliers, and private equity to mitigate project risks.

“Jhansi has touched on every aspect of nuclear power through her engineering work on reactors, development of public-private partnerships, and significant work building up the strong workforce that The Nuclear Company will rely on to build more nuclear power across America,” said Juliann Edwards, Chief Development Officer of The Nuclear Company and chair of U.S. Women in Nuclear.

In addition to her work at INL, Kandasamy’s career includes leadership roles at GE Hitachi, PSE&G, Exelon, and Bechtel, where she oversaw regulatory assurance and project management. A dedicated advocate for diversity in engineering, Kandasamy co-founded the Nuclear Executives of Tomorrow (NEXT) program, which prepares female leaders for executive roles in nuclear. She also serves as managing director of the Sri Nagalakshmi Ammal College of Sciences in southern India, supporting education for underprivileged students.
