LOS ANGELES, July 14, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - The Paramount Ballroom in Boyle Heights is marking its 100th anniversary with a series of events, starting with a community viewing party for the Copa America 2024 Final between Colombia and Argentina. The event will take place on July 14, 2024, from 4 PM to 9 PM.

Built in 1924, the Paramount is a Renaissance revival structure located in Boyle Heights. Initially operated by the Jewish baker’s union and the Jewish subdistrict of the Communist Party, it served as a hub for community organizing during a period of significant Jewish population in East Los Angeles. Later, the venue was transformed into a ballroom and educational center by Eduardo Cansino, father of Rita Hayworth, focusing on live music and dance.

In the 1980s, the Paramount became a notable location for punk music and the new wave Eastside sound. In 2011, owner Frank Acevedo began a restoration project to revive the venue as a cultural hub, preserving its 1920s architectural influences and historical elements.

Today, the Paramount functions as a music venue, radio station, nonprofit, and restaurant, benefiting the surrounding community through various programs and educational initiatives. The anniversary celebration will include live music, cultural, and community events, culminating in a larger celebration in September.
