WASHINGTON, December 13, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - WoodWorks – Wood Products Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and support of wood construction, has announced the opening of nominations for its 2024 Wood in Architecture Awards. This prestigious awards program seeks to recognize and honor outstanding achievements in the design and construction of commercial and multi-family buildings using mass timber, heavy timber, light-frame wood, and hybrid systems across the United States. The organization has set January 31, 2024, as the deadline for submission of entries.

Jennifer Cover, President and CEO of WoodWorks, emphasized the significance of the awards in promoting innovative wood design. “Celebrating the ingenuity of design teams while highlighting the tremendous promise of wood as a solution for today's construction challenges is at the heart of our awards program,” Cover stated. She further noted, “We are thrilled to open this year’s call for projects that showcase the creativity of designers and exemplify how wood continues to redefine modern building practices, contributing to a more resilient and environmentally conscious built environment.”

An independent jury comprising design and building professionals will evaluate the submitted projects. The criteria for judging include Design Excellence, Innovative Use of Wood, Sustainability and Resilience, and Market Impact. The winners will be recognized at the AIA Conference on Architecture & Design, scheduled to be held in Washington, D.C., in June 2024. Additionally, winning design teams will receive national exposure through WoodWorks and the WoodWorks Innovation Network (WIN).

The nomination process, including detailed criteria and evaluation methodology, is available at woodworks.org/nominate. There is no fee for nominating a project, and participants are encouraged to submit multiple projects. Eligibility criteria stipulate that both the projects and their respective architecture firms must be located in the U.S., and the construction of the nominated buildings must be completed by the nomination deadline.
