BERKELEY, Calif., September 12, 2023, (VSNewsNetwork.com) - The Bay Area Book Festival (BABF) has elected three new members—Aya de León, Piper Kerman, and Aida Salazar—to its Board of Directors. These appointments come on the heels of the resignation of Festival founder Cherilyn Parsons earlier this year and aim to guide the Festival as it enters its tenth year in 2024.

For nearly a decade, the Bay Area Book Festival has been a central cultural and literary event in the region. The Festival has featured an impressive lineup of speakers over the years, including the likes of Roxane Gay, Gloria Steinem, and Kazuo Ishiguro, among others.

The Festival's existing board and dedicated staff, led by Managing Director Samee Roberts, are planning a somewhat scaled-back version of the event for 2024. Despite the reduction in size, the team is committed to retaining the Festival's core features such as diverse panels and the outdoor street fair.

"We are planning for a somewhat smaller footprint this year," said Board Chairperson Brooke Warner, adding that the 2023 edition of the festival was among the most successful to date. "We're committed to continuing the legacy that Cherilyn left us, and this new slate of board members makes me feel confident that we'll be able to do just that."

Incoming board member Aya de León commented on her appointment, stating, "This festival is a precious resource in a world where independent literary institutions are struggling. I am excited to give back to this community."

The Bay Area Book Festival is calling for community support for its 2024 Festival through sponsorship, donations, and volunteer opportunities.
