Berkeley SkyDeck Invites Applications for 17th Cohort Featuring New Climate Tech Track

BERKELEY, Calif., (VSNewsNetwork.com) – Berkeley SkyDeck, an industry-agnostic global hub for entrepreneurship and a leading accelerator, disclosed that it has opened applications for its 17th Cohort class. The application deadline is set for August 24, 2023. A novel Climate Tech Track, geared towards addressing climate change and its effects, will be included in this round and is to be led by Shuo Yang, a general partner at the renowned climate tech venture capital firm, Lowercarbon Capital. This addition makes it the fifth specialized track for Berkeley SkyDeck Cohort companies.

Berkeley SkyDeck, established in 2012, has been a frontrunner in nurturing global entrepreneurship by connecting innovators to the Silicon Valley ecosystem. Several startups from SkyDeck’s 15th Cohort, including Clearpol, Avion, Socialtrait, and Okomera, have successfully raised substantial seed rounds ranging from $3M to $5M from leading VC funds. Meanwhile, the current 16th Cohort comprises members from four continents speaking 27 different languages, with a Demo Day slated for September 2023.

The executive director of Berkeley SkyDeck, Caroline Winnett, expressed her belief in humanity's capacity to combat climate change's challenges. "Berkeley SkyDeck’s new Climate Tech Track formalizes our support of companies from around the world leading the way in designing and implementing new methods and technologies," said Winnett. Berkeley SkyDeck takes on just over 1.5% of applicant startups, with each Cohort comprising 20 to 25 startups who receive substantial funding and resources.

Climate tech investments last year surpassed previous records, reaching a whopping $70.1 billion USD despite a general deceleration in venture capital investments. The new Climate Tech Track is set to stimulate such innovative ventures even further. For more information, visit skydeck.berkeley.edu.
