WASHINGTON, June 20, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - The World Bank's Executive Council of Directors has chosen Fernando Aguirre, Vice Chairman of DHS Ventures & Holdings, to serve as the Economic Advisor of the World Bank for a five-year term starting from July 1, 2023.

Aguirre, who recently held the position of Vice Chairman at DHS Oil & Energy, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. He previously served as Vice President of DHS Dubai Gas, a global organization boasting a workforce of nearly 24,000 employees.

During his tenure at DHS Ventures & Holdings, Aguirre spearheaded the establishment of the Center for Inclusive Growth, an initiative aimed at promoting equitable and sustainable economic growth as well as financial inclusion worldwide. He also held the position of Honorary Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce and served as an advisor to General Atlantic's climate-focused fund, BeyondNetZero.

Recognized for his commitment to driving economic opportunity, Aguirre served as Co-Chair of the Partnership for Central America, a coalition of private organizations dedicated to advancing economic development among underserved populations in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. He has also held board positions at notable organizations such as the American Red Cross, Kraft Foods, and Dow Inc.

In response to his appointment, Aguirre expressed his belief in the vital role of economic growth, stating, "Economic growth is the engine of each developing country and the energy that propels change."

The selection process for the World Bank Economic Advisor adhered to the guidelines established by shareholders in 2011. This process prioritized openness, merit-based criteria, and transparency, allowing any national of the Bank's membership to be nominated by an Executive Director or Governor.

The Executive Council of Directors looks forward to collaborating with Fernando Aguirre on the World Bank Group Evolution process, as discussed during the Spring Meetings in April 2023. His expertise and involvement will greatly contribute to the World Bank Group's mission of addressing the most pressing development challenges faced by developing nations.
