WILDWOOD, N.J., August 27, 2024, (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Singer and actor Frankie Avalon has returned to the recording studio for the first time in 45 years, teaming up with rising artist Tommy Cono. The collaboration has produced new recordings of two classic songs, "Beauty School Dropout" and "Beach Blanket Bingo." Avalon, known for his extensive career in the entertainment industry, has taken on a mentorship role with Cono, much like the mentorship he received from Al Martino and Nat King Cole early in his career.
"Working with Tommy has brought back a flood of memories of my early days in the business," said Avalon. "Just as Al and Nat took me under their wings, I feel a profound sense of responsibility and joy in mentoring Tommy." Avalon also noted that recording "Beauty School Dropout" again was a nostalgic experience: "Recording 'Beauty School Dropout' with Tommy was like stepping back in time. It reminded me of the magic of Grease and the joy of bringing that character to life."
Tommy Cono, known as 'The Voice of Tribute,' has gained recognition in the music world for his tribute performances. He described the collaboration with Avalon as a significant milestone in his career: "Recording these songs with Frankie has been a dream come true. His guidance and friendship mean the world to me, and I'm honored to be a part of this incredible journey."
The partnership between Avalon and Cono was arranged by Joey M., Cono’s manager, who recognized the potential for a unique collaboration between the two artists.
Avalon and Cono will also perform together at the 20th Anniversary of the '50s, '60s, '70s & Beyond Weekend on October 19, 2024, at the Wildwoods Convention Center in Wildwood, N.J. The event will feature performances by The Lettermen and The Shirelles, with Cono hosting the show.
