Gold House Launches Inaugural Gold List Celebrating Asian Achievements in Television
LOS ANGELES, June 14, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) – Gold House has announced the launch of its first-ever Gold List, recognizing outstanding achievements in television by Asian creatives over the past year. This initiative coincides with the opening of the voting period for the 76th Emmy Awards. The selections for the Gold List were made by Asian Pacific leaders in the entertainment industry.
According to Gold House, in the 75-year history of the Primetime Emmy Awards, only 1.1% of the awards have gone to Asian creatives or Asian-led projects. However, the past year has seen significant growth in the popularity of television projects led by Asians, both in front of and behind the camera. Notable achievements include the record-breaking global viewership of "One Piece" on Netflix and the most-watched FX premiere on Hulu with "Shōgun." The show "Beef" also garnered historic wins at the 75th Emmy Awards for creator Lee Sung Jin and stars Ali Wong and Steven Yeun.
Gold House, known for its advocacy in recognizing Asian Pacific creativity in film through the Gold List, is expanding its efforts to television. The Gold List has previously highlighted films such as "Everything Everywhere All At Once," "Minari," and "Parasite," which have achieved significant recognition and awards at the Academy Awards.
"Shōgun" received multiple honors on the inaugural Gold List, including Outstanding Series and Outstanding Lead Performance for Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada. It also won awards for Outstanding Directing and Writing, with additional mentions for supporting performances from Fumi Nikaido, Moeka Hoshi, and Tadanobu Asano. Sanada commented on the recognition, stating, “I am deeply honored to be selected in the inaugural TV Gold List for my role in Shōgun. This recognition is particularly special as it marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in celebrating excellence in television."
Other winners on the Gold List include Greta Lee and Bowen Yang for Outstanding Supporting Performances in "The Morning Show" and "Saturday Night Live," respectively. "Blue Eye Samurai" won for Outstanding Animated Program, and "Quiz Lady" was honored as the Outstanding Made for Television Movie.
"The Sympathizer" and "Expats" also received significant recognition. "The Sympathizer" earned accolades for Outstanding Television Show, Directing, and Lead and Supporting Performances, while "Expats" received mentions for Outstanding Television Show, Directing, Writing, and Supporting Performance.
The Gold List also highlighted rising Asian stars such as Ambika Mod from "One Day" and Ji-young Yoo from "Expats," alongside established actors like Maya Erskine in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" and Utkarsh Ambudkar in "Ghosts."
