Groundbreaking Study by Drs. Christian and Caroline Heim Explores the Core Questions Young Couples Seek to Answer

SYDNEY & NEW YORK, August 31, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Psychiatrist Dr. Christian Heim and Professor Dr. Caroline Heim have unveiled a comprehensive global study exploring the top questions that young couples want answered. The results of the study are included in their new book, "Resilient Relationships: Techniques for Surviving Hyper-individualism, Social Isolation, and a Mental Health Crisis," published by Routledge.
According to the authors, the book serves as a companion to couples therapy, presenting over 75 relationship-enhancing techniques. "Resilient Relationships" is based on extensive research, including interviews with couples who have been together for decades. It is backed by Dr. Christian Heim's two decades of clinical experience and incorporates insights from over 900 scientific studies.
The study, involving more than 1,400 participants from 52 countries, is the largest of its kind. Dr. Christian Heim explains, "It reveals that young couples really do want long-term relationships."
The book directly addresses the current U.S.-specific challenges of hyper-individualism, social isolation, and mental health crises. "Nurturing a strong, mutually supportive, long-term relationship may just be the most self-serving thing two people could choose to do," state Drs. Heim.

In the study, 300 young couples were asked what they would inquire of couples married for over 40 years. The top five questions included:
What is your secret to staying together? (over 64% of couples)
Is the spark still there?
How do you stop arguing?
How do you keep your relationship fun?
How do you keep emotionally connected?
To answer these, Drs. Heim conducted interviews and surveys with more than 1,100 couples married between 40 and 73 years. The top three secrets revealed were 1) commitment, 2) altruism, and 3) shared values.
