Microsoft Azure Announces Scalable Solution for Healthcare Organizations Including Mount Sinai Health System

REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 11, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) – Microsoft Corp. unveiled on Thursday that Epic clients, beginning with Mount Sinai Health System, one of New York City's largest academic medical systems, can now leverage Microsoft Azure Large Instances to manage extensive electronic health record (EHR) database loads. The new Azure solution provides the ability to scale up to 50 million database accesses per second, a feature specifically designed for running large EHR databases, and surpassing previous limits of shared public cloud infrastructures.

Through a collaboration with Accenture, Mount Sinai has been migrating workloads to Azure, resulting in the world's largest production instance of Epic running on Azure. "We are very excited about this move as it further enables digital transformation, accelerates artificial intelligence (AI) and innovation, provides scalability and flexibility, and reduces upfront infrastructure costs," said Kristin Myers, executive vice president at Mount Sinai. The healthcare provider sees this move as pivotal in improving patient care, streamlining operations, and innovating in their field.

Microsoft's collaboration with Epic aims to reduce complexity, control costs, and provide a secure, scalable, and agile public cloud solution. Tom McGuinness, corporate vice president at Microsoft, emphasized the commitment to empowering the healthcare industry: “Through our collaboration with Epic, we are delivering innovation for customers on Azure that will help healthcare organizations succeed, particularly as they navigate through today’s economic landscape.” The shift to a cloud-first model is essential for healthcare providers looking to achieve digital transformation, lowering costs and increasing efficiency.
