Muck Rack Reveals Current Salaries in PR and Journalism

MIAMI, (VSNewsNetwork.com) - A new report by Muck Rack reveals the average salaries of public relations (PR) and journalism professionals. According to the second annual State of PR and Journalism Salaries survey, a typical PR professional at a brand earns $107,000, while those at agencies earn around $80,000. The survey collected data from over 1,400 participants in both fields to understand salary structures and their influencing factors.

The survey found no strong correlation between hours worked and salary, with 57% of PR professionals reporting over 40 hours of work per week, and nearly 80% working after hours at least once a week. However, seniority seemed to significantly impact salary, especially within the C-suite, where 49% are likely earning $150,000 or more. Gender disparity was also evident in the survey, with senior roles at agencies more likely to be held by men, despite 80% of survey respondents being women.

Journalist salaries, on the other hand, showed little variation, typically falling within the $40,000-$70,000 range irrespective of years of experience. This suggests possible wage stagnation in the industry, with seniority not guaranteeing significantly higher pay.
