ATLANTA, May 17, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Atlanta Habitat for Humanity has announced the appointment of Rosalyn Merrick as its new President and CEO. Merrick, who has served as the organization's chief development officer since November 2020, steps into her new role with unanimous support from the Board of Directors.

Jeremy Silverman, Board Vice Chair and partner at Alston & Bird LLP, expressed gratitude for the contributions of outgoing CEO Alan Ferguson and optimism about Merrick's leadership. "We’re grateful for Alan’s leadership and strategic direction. Among other achievements, he helped secure $8.4 million in funding commitments," Silverman stated. He further noted, "From helping navigate the pandemic to leading strategic growth, we have seen Rosalyn lead with skill, tenacity, and passion. The Board has complete confidence in her ability to advance our mission and goals."

Merrick, an Atlanta native and Georgia State University alumna, has a 24-year career that spans several leadership roles in notable Atlanta-based organizations, including the Georgia Community Foundation and The Ron Clark Academy.

Reflecting on her new role, Merrick said, "I believe the varied experience I’ve had here at Atlanta Habitat uniquely positions me to further guide our mission to help make homeownership affordable for generations of families." She highlighted her commitment to expanding the organization's approach to affordable housing, noting, "We’re committed to our vision to build homes, people, and communities — even as we face the rising costs of land and building materials. I grew up in this city and I’m honored to put my talents to work as we empower families to break poverty cycles by providing quality, affordable homes in safe, vibrant neighborhoods."

Under Merrick's direction as chief development officer, Atlanta Habitat successfully navigated post-pandemic challenges and received significant donations, including a $13.5 million contribution from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott in March 2022. These funds have supported the expansion of Atlanta Habitat's construction portfolio and enhanced its ability to serve more families.

Merrick's recent promotion in January 2023 to executive vice president and chief operations officer saw her overseeing daily operations across multiple departments, positioning Atlanta Habitat to serve 221 families in 2023, with plans to increase this number in the coming year.
