LEXINGTON, Ky., August 22, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Alex Harrell, a soybean farmer from southwest Georgia, has set a new world record for soybean yield, achieving an unprecedented 218 bushels per acre. This milestone, recorded on August 13, 2024, surpasses Harrell’s previous record of 206 bushels per acre, which he set in 2023.

Harrell, who is in his second year as a member of Total Acre, credited much of his success to the innovative techniques and data-driven strategies provided by the membership platform. Total Acre, known for helping farmers optimize production potential, played a significant role in Harrell’s record-breaking yield by offering tools that integrate advanced software, technology, and data analytics.

Harrell’s approach to achieving this yield involved planting Pioneer P49Z02E soybean variety in 30-inch red clay soil rows with a 110,000-planting population. He utilized double strip tilling, center pivot irrigation, precise nutrient management, and frequent tissue sampling to ensure optimal growing conditions throughout the season.

One of the critical aspects of Harrell’s success was his meticulous nutrient management strategy. By analyzing up to 14 different micro and macronutrients throughout the season and conducting regular tissue sampling, Harrell was able to address nutrient deficiencies in real time, maintaining the health and productivity of his crops.

“Total Acre is about getting better every day,” said Chad Scebold, Head of Grower Experience at Total Acre. “Our members are willing to try new farming methods and products to find the best balance for their fields, while also optimizing their return on investment. We teach them to leverage what they do well, create a plan, execute on the plan, measure the results, and then make the necessary adjustments to maximize production potential on their land.”

Harrell’s achievement highlights the evolving potential of soybean production. “We used to think 150 bushels was the ceiling, but he has proven that the potential is much greater,” Scebold added. The record-breaking yield exemplifies the advancements in agricultural practices and the impact of using historical field data and new technologies.
