FAIRFIELD, N.J., October 17, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - UNICO National, the largest Italian American service organization in the United States, has designated retired Army Lieutenant General Robert Caslen, Jr., as its Honorary Spokesman for Military & Veteran Affairs. This announcement was made by UNICO National President Cav. Ralph Contini at a ceremony that took place on the West Point football field.

“General Caslen is a highly recognizable, decorated military leader, who served our nation with honor and distinction. UNICO National is especially pleased to have him join us as an Honorary Spokesman supporting our mission,” said Contini.

General Caslen, a veteran who served the United States military for 43 years, was honored earlier this year with the Anthony Fornelli American War Veteran Award at the UNICO National 100th Annual Convention & Italian American Awards Gala in Fort Myers, Florida. The event was hosted by ESPN National Correspondent Sal Paolantonio, who is also an Honorary Spokesman for UNICO National’s membership and fundraising activities.

Before his retirement in 2018, Caslen served as the 59th Superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Under his leadership, the Academy gained recognition from Forbes Magazine and U.S. News and World Report as the number one ranked public college in the nation. He also previously held the position of chief of the Office of Security Cooperation in Iraq.

UNICO National, founded in 1922, is a nonprofit organization that adheres to the principle of "Service Above Self." The organization annually provides over one million dollars in scholarships and charitable assistance through its chapters nationwide. It supports a range of valuable programs including mental health wellness, cancer research and prevention, food banks, and other local community needs.

The 101st Annual Convention & Gala of UNICO National is scheduled to take place on July 31, 2024, in Princeton, New Jersey. Ralph LaRossa, President & CEO of Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG), will be honored at the event, with media personality Erin Como of Fox 5 DC television serving as the host.
