LONDON, October 8, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) – Blecon, a technology company focused on enhancing Bluetooth Low Energy for Internet of Things (IoT) applications, announced the successful completion of a $4.6 million seed funding round. The financing aims to further the company's mission of providing businesses with a more scalable and efficient way to connect cloud-enabled devices using Bluetooth technology.

“Bluetooth has seen unprecedented technical and commercial success as a consumer technology for personal connectivity, with adoption in billions of devices. Now, businesses are exploiting those economies of scale and unique low-cost, low-power characteristics for cloud-connected devices, and Blecon is providing the technology to allow them to achieve it”, said Simon Ford, CEO of Blecon.

Blecon's approach eliminates the need for 1:1 pairing of Bluetooth devices, a shift from the traditional use of the technology. By enabling both smartphones and dedicated cellular hubs to act as Bluetooth hotspots, the company is creating a system that mirrors the deployment models of Wi-Fi and the networking capabilities of cellular systems. This architecture allows for more seamless integration of devices in various commercial applications, including supply chains and healthcare.

“At Wiliot, we’re embedding Bluetooth into our IoT Pixels, stickers that bring real-time intelligence to everyday items—from supply chains to healthcare—in ways that were previously impossible. Bluetooth is no longer confined to consumer devices; it’s now driving commercial cloud applications, and companies like Blecon are accelerating this shift”, said Steve Statler, CMO at Wiliot.

The seed round was led by MMC Ventures, which expressed optimism about Blecon's impact on the growing IoT market. “At MMC we take a research-led approach to the companies and technologies that will reshape our economy over the coming decades. Blecon's infrastructure proposition has the potential to leverage all the investment already made in tried and tested Bluetooth technology and unlock that for new data-driven product companies and applications”, said Bruce Macfarlane, founding partner of MMC Ventures.

The core features of Blecon's technology include automatic cloud connection without the need for traditional pairing, cellular-like roaming capabilities for devices, and easy configuration with Blecon apps and hubs for seamless global deployment.
