Great Lakes St. Lawrence Governors and Premiers Unveil Major Initiatives at 2023 Leadership Summit
CLEVELAND, October 17, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Leaders from the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence region convened for a Leadership Summit from October 13-15, hosted by the Conference of Great Lakes St. Lawrence Governors & Premiers (GSGP). The summit marked 40 years of collaboration among regional leaders and featured the launch of significant new initiatives. Among these were the extension of the 100% fish utilization corporate pledge and the inauguration of the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Trees Initiative, targeting the planting of 250 million trees by 2033.
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, serving as Chair and Vice Chair of the GSGP respectively, led the Summit. They were joined by other regional leaders including Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who was announced as the next GSGP Chair, effective January 2024. The summit also named Quebec as the location for the 2025 Leadership Summit. Fourteen companies signed a pledge committing to 100% utilization of commercially caught fish by 2025. Additional initiatives include the Great Lakes Green Events program aimed at enhancing sustainability at organizational gatherings, and multiple trade missions to countries such as Ukraine, Poland, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brazil, and Chile.
