NEW YORK, August 27, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Gulf Medical Technologies (GMT) and Mayo Clinic have announced a collaboration aimed at advancing Klens, a technology designed to enhance visual clarity during minimally invasive surgeries (MIS), including robotic and laparoscopic procedures. The collaboration seeks to address the ongoing clinical challenge of compromised vision during surgery due to debris, fog, and fluid accumulation on surgical camera lenses.

The partnership will leverage the expertise of both GMT and Mayo Clinic, integrating efforts in clinical, technological, and research fields, as well as strategic planning and regulatory affairs. The objective is to develop and commercialize Klens, a solution that aims to restore real-time visual clarity during surgeries, thereby reducing disruptions and potentially improving patient outcomes.

"By combining our cutting-edge technology with Mayo Clinic’s expertise, we aim to tackle one of the most enduring challenges in minimally invasive surgery," said Dr. Ahmad Nabeel, Founder and CEO of Gulf Medical Technologies.

The collaboration will also focus on developing new computer vision systems that integrate artificial intelligence (AI) to further enhance Klens' capabilities. Michael Kendrick, M.D., chair of the Department of Surgery at Mayo Clinic, will contribute his clinical and technological expertise to the project.

Mayo Clinic has a financial interest in the technology and plans to use the revenue to support its not-for-profit mission in patient care, education, and research.
