SAN FRANCISCO, December 12, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco, in collaboration with Villa, a builder of prefabricated homes, and Bolinas Community Land Trust, has initiated a housing project in Bolinas to address the high cost of living. This project involves constructing prefab homes, providing affordable housing solutions to the local community.

In Bolinas, where housing expenses are significantly above the national average, this initiative is particularly crucial. The partnership aims to mitigate the issue of families being displaced due to the conversion of long-term rentals into short-term vacation properties. Utilizing prefab construction methods, this collaboration has successfully completed the construction of several housing units and has more underway.

Maureen Sedonaen, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco, emphasized the project's impact: “Through our partnership with Villa and Bolinas Community Land Trust, we are helping local families stay in the community they know and love, and we are doing it twice as quickly as traditional home construction. These are families with preschool-aged children who can now put down roots and build equity that will last for generations. It is a model we are excited to explore across the Bay Area to simplify and speed up the time it takes to get families into much-needed homes.”

Prefab construction is known for its efficiency and reduced timelines, allowing for faster provision of housing. It also minimizes weather-related delays and ensures consistent quality, along with reducing on-site waste and material usage.

Sean Roberts, CEO of Villa, shared his perspective on the project: “Villa is proud to have played a small part in bringing more affordable housing to the Bolinas community, and we are confident that our innovative prefab construction methods will serve as a model for tackling this pressing issue on a broader scale over time. Together, we are building not just homes but hope, ensuring that the dream of homeownership remains within reach for those who need it most.”
