RALEIGH, N.C., September 16, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Lucideon, a development and commercialization organization specializing in materials technology, has announced a partnership with Technetics Group to develop a NASA-patented ceramic composite material. This material is intended for use in next-generation dynamic seals for high-performance applications involving extreme temperatures and high rotational speeds.

Technetics Group, which has licensed the ceramic composite from NASA, aims to leverage the material for dynamic seals in several demanding environments. The focus of this collaboration is to create a low-friction, durable ceramic composite suitable for high-performance, rotating environments across multiple industries.

Dr. Carolyn Grimley, Manager of U.S. Advanced Materials and Processing at Lucideon, highlighted the significance of the collaboration. "Lucideon’s long-standing expertise in ceramic processing capabilities will play an important role in the advancement of these materials for Technetics as they develop these materials. Our advanced ceramic processing equipment will be deployed to establish detailed and repeatable testing conditions."

Grimley further explained, "The data assessment phase will focus on consolidating experimental parameters from the patent and utilizing literature to build on the patent’s detail regarding both processing parameters and target outcomes such as grain size." The project will involve multiple phases, with Lucideon’s materials scientists identifying and refining key parameters until the material is reproduced as closely as possible to the patent specifications.

The work will take place at Lucideon's Raleigh facilities, which feature advanced testing and characterization laboratories.
