VALLEY VILLAGE, CA, June 25, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) – New Smiles Studio, a San Fernando Valley dental practice owned by Dr. Melanie Marshall, has been honored as the #1 Small Business in The San Fernando Valley. This accolade was presented by Black In The Valley, a local African American community resource group, at Zawadi Cultural Collective’s Juneteenth event. The award recognizes the office’s exceptional service and community impact.

Dr. Marshall expressed her gratitude on social media following the event, stating, "Last weekend I celebrated Juneteenth with @blackinthevalleysfv and was recognized as the #1 Black Business in the Valley! Thank you to our wonderful patients for your votes and thank you to my entire team for their hard work and commitment as we help you build your #newsmile! Thanks again BITV for the recognition”.

The recognition came on June 15th during the annual Juneteenth celebration hosted by the Zawadi Cultural Collective, an event designed to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and foster unity within the African American community. This year’s event featured 100 black vendors, live music, family-friendly activities, and community awards.

The Zawadi Cultural Collective, led by Shania Accius, has been instrumental in highlighting and supporting black businesses in the San Fernando Valley. The organization aims to address the underrepresentation of black-owned businesses in community recognition and support.

Dr. Marshall, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Spelman College and a Dental degree from the University of Southern California, began her career in Community and Public Health Dentistry. After serving as the Dental Director of a Pasadena Dental Clinic, she opened New Smiles Studio in Valley Village, focusing on restorative dentistry and enhancing patients' confidence.

"Many patients are ashamed that they’ve avoided the dentist or neglected their teeth. I encourage them to forget the past and focus on their overall health and breathing life into their new smile", Dr. Marshall states on her website.
