ATLANTA, October 17, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - The Partnership for Inclusive Innovation (Partnership) has officially named Chris Womack, President and CEO of Southern Company, as its new board chair, taking over from founding board chair Dr. G.P. "Bud" Peterson.

On the change in leadership, Dr. Peterson remarked, “The opportunity to help launch the Partnership and see it grow to become the catalyst for change it is today has been a privilege beyond measure. I am thrilled to turn over the Board leadership to Chris Womack, a leader whose commitment to our region’s overall prosperity truly embodies the Partnership’s mission.”

The Partnership has actively supported innovation across Georgia's 12 economic development districts, cultivating a varied portfolio of 62 projects at 121 sites and forging affiliations with 25 academic institutions and 29 local governments. These initiatives have notably backed nearly 200 entrepreneurs and small businesses, while securing additional external funding, including a $4 million USDA grant for an innovative farming project.

Chris Womack, in his remarks about accepting the board chair role, stated, “I am honored to serve as board chair and will work to build upon the progress the Partnership made under Dr. Peterson’s leadership. I look forward to driving our collective efforts to scale our model of inclusive innovation throughout Georgia and beyond.”

Debra Lam, founding executive director of the Partnership, expressed her enthusiasm for the new phase. “Chris Womack’s appointment as board chair marks a new chapter of promise for the Partnership. His leadership will undoubtedly amplify our endeavors to create a more inclusive, innovative, and prosperous economic landscape,” she said.

Womack, who has a diverse background including roles in the energy sector and legislative experience on Capitol Hill, is expected to use this unique skill set to expand the Partnership’s influence both nationally and internationally. His leadership will focus on public-private partnerships that offer long-term value to communities.
