TALLAHASSEE, Fla., June 3, 2024, (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Governor Ron DeSantis is considering a veto against restrictive hemp legislation, a decision that, according to Save Florida Hemp, could protect over 10,000 small businesses and preserve more than 100,000 jobs across Florida.

"Governor DeSantis's consideration of a veto is a beacon of hope for the small business owners and workers who are the backbone of Florida's economy," stated Patrick O’Brien from Save Florida Hemp, an advocacy group for the hemp industry. "This is not just about hemp; it’s about defending the principles of free enterprise and economic diversity that have made Florida a powerhouse."

Save Florida Hemp argues that the proposed legislation, supported by powerful cannabis interests, threatens the hemp industry by imposing stringent regulations that could dismantle an entire sector. Hemp is praised for its diverse health benefits, including alleviating pain and reducing anxiety, without the intoxicating effects of cannabis.

Currently, Florida regulates cannabis products to ensure that all CBD products meet strict THC content guidelines. The proposed legislation, however, could restrict competition from hemp-based businesses that have thrived under the existing legal framework.

A veto by Governor DeSantis could signal support for economic growth and innovation. "This isn't just about saving jobs; it's about preserving a dynamic market where innovation can flourish," O’Brien added.

The outcome of this decision is being closely watched, with comparisons drawn to states like California, where heavy regulation has driven similar industries into the shadows, bolstering black markets and out-of-state monopolies.
