SCOTTSDALE, August 6, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Nexus Youth Soccer League (NYSL), founded by Scottsdale residents Kenna and RJ Watters, has announced the launch of a new recreational soccer league tailored for multi-sport girls and boys in grades 3-8. This league aims to provide a competitive, non-coed environment without the high costs and time commitments associated with club soccer.

NYSL was created in response to a lack of opportunities for girls to continue playing soccer recreationally in Scottsdale. The founders noted that existing co-ed teams often placed girls in intimidating environments, hindering their ability to play to their full potential. "We wanted more for our daughter and other female athletes who want to play and learn in a positive, encouraging environment," said Kenna Watters.

According to a 2017 study by the Women’s Sports Foundation, girls drop out of sports at twice the rate of boys by age 14, often due to a lack of enjoyment. The NYSL seeks to reintroduce fun into youth soccer while providing a setting that promotes skill development and a love for the game.

The league features one practice per week and a game every Saturday, allowing children to engage in other activities and sports. Registration for the fall season is open through August 31, 2024, and more information can be found at www.nexusysl.com.
