ZUG, Switzerland, December 13, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Eviosys, a metal packaging manufacturer, has released the findings of its second annual Europe-wide consumer survey, focusing on attitudes towards packaging in the context of economic uncertainty and the festive season. The survey, which gathered responses from 2,000 consumers across the UK, France, Germany, and Spain, highlights a significant shift in consumer behavior towards sustainable packaging.

According to the survey, a substantial 87% of respondents believe that the gifting season contributes to wasteful behavior. This concern over waste is accompanied by a growing awareness of packaging materials, with 48% of consumers considering packaging when shopping. The survey also indicates a strong frustration with the use of plastic in supermarkets, as 59% of respondents express discontent with the amount of plastic packaging.

Sustainability appears to be a key factor in purchasing decisions, with 57% of those surveyed willing to pay more for products packaged sustainably. Metal packaging, in particular, is viewed as a more sustainable option than plastic by 63% of respondents. This preference is further evidenced by the fact that 82% would be more inclined to buy a product in metal packaging, appreciating its recyclability.

The survey also reveals that 66% of consumers feel companies are not doing enough to tackle plastic pollution. In contrast, 61% view the adoption of metal packaging by companies as a significant step towards sustainability. Economic concerns are also prominent, with 56% citing the cost of living as a primary concern, and 78% acknowledging that cost influences their gift purchasing decisions.

In the realm of gifting, the survey finds that 48% of consumers are influenced by the ability to reuse or refill a product, even over luxury or design considerations. Notably, 94% of respondents reuse their gift tins for various purposes, including storing decorations, food, jewelry, and for DIY projects.

Glass remains a preferred option for premium packaging for 42% of respondents, but metal is a close second at 38%, indicating its growing appeal during the festive season.

Laetitia Durafour, Marketing Director at Eviosys, commented on the survey findings: "Eviosys stands firm in our mission to help brands address consumers' expectations by spearheading sustainable, recyclable metal packaging solutions. We're not merely witnessing a shift in consumer preferences; we're actively shaping a future where responsible choices define our packaging landscape, reflecting the growing commitment toward a more eco-conscious society."
