Neuhaus Education Center Appoints Katherine Smith as Incoming President and CEO

BELLAIRE, Texas, April 4, 2025 (VSNewsNetwork.com) — Nonprofit education organization, Neuhaus Education Center (NEC), has announced the appointment of Katherine Smith as its next President and Chief Executive Officer. Smith will assume the role on April 7, 2025, succeeding Dr. Tracy White Weeden, who will retire at the end of August 2025.

NEC specializes in literacy education and supports educators, families, and adult learners with evidence-based programs and professional development.

Smith brings more than 20 years of experience in education, strategy, and nonprofit leadership. Most recently, she led the Houston ISD Foundation, where she worked to enhance financial sustainability and visibility. Smith previously worked as a classroom teacher and dyslexia consultant.

According to the company, Smith and White Weeden will collaborate during a leadership transition period. White Weeden will remain with the organization as a keynote speaker and ambassador until her official retirement on August 31, 2025.

Smith holds a B.A. in English from the University of South Alabama and an M.Ed. in Educational Policy and Leadership from the University of Texas at Arlington. She completed the Executive Fellowship for School Administrators (REEP) at Rice University and is pursuing an MFA from the University of Houston. She also holds multiple certifications from the Texas Education Agency.
