LOS ANGELES, September 17, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) – The Salvation Army is hosting the 2024 Homelessness Symposium today in downtown Los Angeles. The symposium is designed to facilitate discussions around homelessness prevention and intervention efforts in the Los Angeles area. With keynotes, fireside chats, and panel discussions, the event will address critical issues related to homelessness, including mental health, infrastructure challenges, and the need for innovative approaches.

The event, held at Gibson Dunn, features prominent public and private sector leaders, including California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis and other experts in homelessness and social services. Key speakers include Dr. Etsemaye Agonafer, Deputy Mayor of Homelessness & Community Health for Los Angeles, and Dr. Carl Castro, USC Professor and Director of Social Work, along with representatives from law enforcement, policy research, and legal sectors.

"As we experience an ever-worsening homelessness crisis, we find ourselves at an inflection point for our state, our city, and our community. There is perhaps no better time for The Salvation Army to host the 2024 Symposium. Hopefully, we can showcase helpful, engaging, and even transformative conversations among key stakeholders in our public and private sectors", said Andrew Jameson, Chair of The Salvation Army’s Los Angeles Metropolitan Advisory Board.

Major Lisa Barnes, Los Angeles Metro Coordinator for The Salvation Army, added, "As a major provider of homeless services in Los Angeles, The Salvation Army recognizes the need for collaboration to tackle this growing humanitarian crisis. That is why we are bringing together some of the most influential thought leaders in the public and private sectors to discuss the growing problems of homelessness."

The symposium, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., provides an opportunity for stakeholders to engage in meaningful conversations and explore solutions to the challenges facing the city’s homeless population.
