Frontline BioEnergy Completes Extended Pilot Test, Advances Renewable Natural Gas Technology
NEVADA, Iowa, October 23, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - Frontline BioEnergy has successfully concluded a 30-day extended pilot test campaign for their TarFreeGas® and BING® (Biomass-Into-Natural-Gas) technologies at a new pilot facility in central Iowa. The test utilized biomass from California's San Joaquin Valley and met all pipeline quality specifications for renewable natural gas.
Jerod Smeenk, CEO of Frontline BioEnergy, spoke about the test's success, stating, “While achieving our goal – 30 days of operation – we made renewable natural gas meeting all pipeline quality specifications. We gathered excellent data to validate our process approach and inform our designs for the commercial-scale plant.” Smeenk emphasized the potential of their technology for the renewable energy industry, describing biomass as "nature's solution for simultaneous carbon capture, solar power, and energy storage."
The testing represented a major funding milestone for the company's San Joaquin Renewables project, which aims to convert agricultural waste, such as orchard residuals and nut shells, into renewable natural gas. “The next step is implementing the TarFreeGas® process at commercial scale to reduce emissions and improve air quality in the San Joaquin Valley,” said Dr. T.J. Paskach, the CTO of Frontline BioEnergy.
With over one billion tons of biomass generated annually in the U.S., much of it going unused, Frontline’s technology offers an alternative to burning or burying the waste, thus providing a potential solution for reducing emissions and improving air quality.
