GJK Facility Services Donates $100,000 to Support RMIT Scholarships for Women in STEMM
MELBOURNE, Australia, October 23, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) – GJK Facility Services has announced a $100,000 donation to RMIT, aimed at supporting disadvantaged students through the newly established GJK Facility Services Scholarship. This scholarship provides up to $10,000 annually for three years, with a focus on students facing barriers to higher education, particularly women, individuals from rural areas, financially disadvantaged backgrounds, or those pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or medicine (STEMM).
According to the company, the scholarship is designed to help recipients achieve their educational and career goals, with the broader aim of driving positive change in the community. This new initiative aligns with GJK Facility Services' continued efforts to support educational opportunities, complementing another scholarship program the company has supported since 2018 for students in environmental science.
Elias Stamas, CEO of GJK Facility Services, highlighted the company’s commitment to academic excellence and community impact. "By investing in education and supporting scholarships, GJK Facility Services is not only fulfilling its mission of giving back but also aligns with RMIT's strategy to contribute to the communities it serves," said Stamas.
Professor Kay Latham, Dean of STEMM Diversity and Inclusion at RMIT, emphasized the importance of such scholarships for under-represented groups in STEMM fields. “For women and under-represented people in STEMM, access to a scholarship can make all the difference, in some cases as to whether pursuing a higher education qualification is even feasible or not. A scholarship such as GJK’s will provide a welcome financial ‘buffer’, but through this also the gift of time and greater freedom – freedom to embrace university life more fully, lessening the need to combine study with external part-time work, and helping to support other responsibilities. Not to mention the amazing confidence boost of having your talent and potential recognised and encouraged – no small thing for anyone”, Latham said.
