WHILL Launches Innovative Urban Mobility Scooter for Active Seniors
SAN CARLOS, Calif., March 21, 2024 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - WHILL, Inc. has launched the Model Ri, a new mobility scooter designed to enhance urban mobility for active seniors. According to the company, the Model Ri stands out for its best-in-class turning radius and the introduction of electronic stability control, a first in the mobility device industry. This innovation has earned the Model Ri the iF Design Award, recognizing its significant design and functional achievements.
The World Health Organization reports that over one billion people globally live with some form of disability, with over 80 million requiring daily wheelchair use. With the senior population expected to reach 2.1 billion by 2050, the Model Ri is positioned as a critical solution for improving accessibility and independence.
The Model Ri features a dual motor system for precise control, independent suspension, and a stabilizer for enhanced electronic stability control. These features are designed to aid users in navigating tight turns, curbs, and other obstacles commonly encountered in urban environments. Additionally, the scooter's steering angle sensor adjusts speed during turns to ensure safety and confidence for the user.
Satoshi Sugie, WHILL's co-founder and CEO, emphasized the company's mission, stating, “At WHILL, we recognized a pressing need for a new approach to urban mobility for active seniors. With the Model Ri, we aimed to create more than a scooter – we envisioned a companion that offers stability, easy maneuverability, and a simple design that appeals to everyone. We are proud that the Model Ri is the first scooter of its kind to have an accompanying application that ensures users are in control of their own experience.”
The Model Ri also introduces a smartphone app, providing users with the ability to personalize their experience through features like keyless power-on and selectable Drive Modes. The app also monitors mileage, battery level, distance traveled, and charge cycles, adapting to the user's lifestyle.
Designed for simplicity and comfort, the Model Ri offers easily assembly and allows for personalization with color options for the tiller cover and features an ergonomic seat and breathable mesh back for comfort. The scooter is ISO 13485 certified, meeting medical-grade safety and quality standards.
WHILL will display the Model Ri, along with other mobility solutions, at the Medtrade Expo & Conference in Dallas, TX, from March 25-28. For further details on the Model Ri, visit https://whill.inc/us/whill-model-ri.
