The role has been filled by John Byck, an art historian who has been with The Met’s Department of Arms and Armor since 2015. Byck’s expertise lies in American and European firearms and edged weapons, and he has curated several exhibitions at The Met, including The Art of London Firearms and Japanese Arms and Armor from the Collection of John and Etsuko Morris. His recent work includes a lecture at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, England, where he shared new findings on firearms from the 1880s and 1890s.

Marica Vilcek, who has had a long association with The Met, began her career there in 1965 and served in various capacities until her retirement. She was elected an honorary trustee of the museum in 2012. The endowment of this position reflects the Vilceks' ongoing commitment to supporting art historians and fostering academic research in the arts.
