Denton Black Film Festival Institute and Southroad Pictures to Produce 'Quakertown, USA' Documentary

DENTON, Texas, September 21, 2023 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - The Denton Black Film Festival Institute and Southroad Pictures announced that they will begin filming 'Quakertown, USA,' a two-part documentary series, this fall. The documentary aims to chronicle the forced relocation of over 400 residents from a thriving community in Denton, Texas, set against the historical context of early 20th century Texas.

The series will focus not only on the multi-generational tragedy that befell families who lost their homes, land, and livelihoods but also on the resilience and recovery in the face of these devastating acts. The Denton Black Film Festival Institute has received a $250,000 grant from the city of Denton to support the production. A GoFundMe campaign is also in progress to secure additional funding for the series.

"We believe that the Quakertown story can become a lighthouse of illumination for the entire country," said Linda Eaddy, film programming director at the Denton Black Film Festival Institute.

The documentary will be helmed by veteran filmmakers King Hollis and Lindell Singleton, who have previously worked on significant projects such as the PBS-aired documentary "Rising: The Hall of Negro Life." The series is anticipated for release in late 2024.

Executive Producer King Hollis expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "I am delighted to work on a series about my hometown, where I spent my summers and where my family resides. It’s a personal story. Lindell and I are pleased to continue our work on these essential historical documentary series."
